Church in the new Recimil district (2003)

The architects who designed the new neighbourhood of Recimil took special care to provide it with a large church, whose facade included a very explicit iconographic programme. The official state doctrine of 'National-Catholicism' granted the Catholic Church the mission of watching over the new inhabitants, many from the countryside, and considered to be at risk of losing faith and respect towards the established order. An urban legend tells how the shots that killed the two workers from Bazán in the demonstration in 1972 were fired from the bell-tower of the church.
