Ferrol - Urban History
Franco Period
Hospital in the Arsenal (1938)

The naval installations in Ferrol were one of the decisive bases of the pro-Franco army from the outset. The city supported war efforts, and its hospitals held more than 2,000 beds. In the image we see one wing of the Hospital in the Arsenal, with a Spanish flag and swastika in the background. In 1938 many Spanish cities paid homage to Nazi Germany, in recognition of the role German forces were playing in supporting the victory of Franco's army.
