The Minister of Industry, in front of the model of Astano (1964)

Astano was purchased in 1948 by the 'Banco Pastor', a bank whose president and main shareholder was Pedro Barrié de la Maza. The shipyards underwent a rapid expansion, particularly after 1962, when the First State Development Plan, approved at a cabinet meeting held in Meirás, granted substantial investments to Ferrol and its shipbuilding industry. In the photograph the Minister of Industry López Bravo stands in front of the model of the future installations. In the background the scene is watched over by two members of the 'Guardia Civil', the police force which was in charge of keeping public order outside the cities.
