Visit to Ferrol by the royal couple (1881)

At the start of the Restoration, the new king Alfonso XII made a series of travels in which he sought contact with local populations and pressure groups, in an attempt to return a sense of prestige to the dynasty. Ferrol found in this visit an opportunity to demonstrate its loyalty, with the city fully aware of its dependence on orders from the Navy. The engraving shows the reception for the royal couple, with the officers paying homage aboard the frigate 'Zaragoza'. During the visit, King Alfonso XII inaugurated a monument to naval officer, Sánchez Barcáiztegui.
