Launching of the cruiser 'Miguel de Cervantes' (1928)

The private management of the naval installations in Ferrol by the Spanish Society of Shipbuilding was accompanied by an active policy of visits by the new king, Alfonso XIII and other members of the royal family, coinciding with the public launching of great warships. These visits were repeated in 1909, 1912, 1913, 1914, 1927, and 1928, and allowed the city to renew its vows of loyalty to the dynasty, at the same time as receiving the message that orders at the shipyard depended on royal favour. In the image we see Princess Isabel surrounded by dignitaries, as 'godmother' to the launching of the cruiser 'Miguel de Cervantes'.
