Ferrol - Urban History
Consolidation
Building work on Ferrol's commercial port (1925)

In 1921 work started on the new commercial port. Evidence of the city's ability to create a communications network and diversify its economy, it also shows how new technologies were applied, as we see in the image, with workers building using moulded concrete. At the same time, social tension increased as the crisis of the Restoration worsened. During a local strike of stevedores, the banker and shipowner Nicasio Pérez, who was also the deputy mayor and president of the local employers' organization, was shot and killed in the neighbourhood of La Magdalena by four gunmen supposedly affiliated with the anarchist movement.
