During the 1920s the construction of a commercial port, connected by train to the railway station, required a tunnel to be drilled that connected both installations, at opposite ends of the city. In the following decade a number of new industries appeared around the port, laying the foundations for a diversification in the economy of Ferrol towards the civil sector.
