TRANSPORT OF THE EUROPEAN SKIPPER, THYMELICUS LINEOLA (LEPIDOPTERA: HESPERIIDAE), ASSOCIATED WITH THE PRODUCTION OF CERTIFIED TIMOTHY SEED1

Abstract

Analysis of samples taken during different stages of the cleaning process for certified timothy seed following harvest showed high densities of European skipper eggs in the waste. These eggs could represent a source of infestation of this insect as the waste is not destroyed but used as lawn seed or discarded on the farm.

Résumé

Une analyse des échantillons prélevés lors des différentes étapes de nettoyage des graines de mil certifiées suivant la récolte, démontre la présence d’une forte densité d’oeufs de l’hespérie des graminées. Ces oeufs peuvent représenter une source d’infestation de cet insecte nuisible. En effet, ces déchets ne sont pas détruits mais utilisés comme semence pour les gazons ou tout simplement dispersés sur la ferme.
