Open Access Publishing at Cambridge
We are working actively with universities, institutions and funding bodies, journal editors and authors to ensure that the application of any open access (OA) model can work alongside existing models and results in a practical and sustainable business model.
Subscription journals published by Cambridge University Press:
- allow Green OA with no embargo period (HSS journals) or six-month embargo period (STM journals) for the ‘Accepted Manuscript’. For specific details see here. The accepted manuscript is the version of the paper that has been submitted to a journal, peer-reviewed and accepted for publication but not yet copyedited or typeset or had any other publishing processes applied (such as adding metadata)
- offer immediate Gold OA through a hybrid option for subscription journals (including journals published on behalf of learned societies), or if published in wholly OA journals, on payment of a one-off Article Processing Charge (APC)
- offer authors the flexibility of a range of Creative Commons licenses, allowing them to choose whichever matches their particular funding and publishing requirements.
- do not charge both authors and subscribers for OA content, as detailed in our double-dipping policy statement.
