2014 is the 40th year of the Review of International Studies. As the current Editorial Team, we are delighted to report that the house journal of the British International Studies Association is thriving and continues to provide a highly regarded forum for cutting edge scholarship in International Studies across a wide range of fields. In celebration of our 40th anniversary, we will be publishing a series of Virtual Special Issues in 2014, which will showcase ground-breaking work published in the journal over the last 40 years in specific areas, including: International Relations and History; International Security; International Theory; International Ethics. In the meantime, Volume 40 is due to include an exciting range of articles dealing with issues from war to international finance to global governance to international piracy from a range of historical, explanatory and normative perspectives. The 2014 print Special Issue will be one of the first collections in International Studies to appear on the globally crucial theme of the international politics of health. We hope our Readers have enjoyed the high quality and variety of contributions to the journal in 2013 and would like to take the opportunity to extend our grateful thanks to Reviewers and Members of the Editorial Board who provided us with invaluable help in 2013, their names are listed at the end of this Issue of the journal. As with any peer-reviewed journal, the Review could not exist without the selfless contribution of Reviewers.

We are at the time of year when we ask readers to submit Special Issue proposals for the 2015 Special Issue, please see below.
