Commentary: Clinical Research on Older Adults in Canada

David Hogan, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.R.C.P.C, is a graduate of Dalhousie University and has a certificate of special competence in geriatric medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Currently he is Professor and the Brenda Strafford Chair in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Calgary. His research interests are iii cognitive disorders, population therapeutics, health services for seniors, and clinical geriatrics. Dr. Hogan is the President of the Canadian Geriatrics ociety (2000–2002).

David Hogan, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.R.C.P.C, est diplômé de l'Université de Dalhousie et possede un certificat de spécialité en médecine gériatrique du Collège royal des médecins et chirurgiens du Canada. II est actuellement professeur et président de la section Brenda Strafford de médecine géria-trique de l'Université de Calgary. Ses recherches portent notamment sur les problèmes cognitifs, la thérapeutique populationelle, les services de santé pour les aîné(e)s et la gériatrie clinique. Il est président de la Canadian Geriatrics Society (2000–2002).

Howard Bergman, M.D., is an associate professor in the Departments of Medicine and Family Medicine and Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine of the Department of Medicine at McGill University. He is an adjunct professor in the Department of Health Administration at the University of Montreal and an investigator at the Groupe de Recherche Interdisciplinaire en Santé (GRIS). He is also Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and investigator at the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology and Community Studies, and at the Bloomfield Centre for Research in Aging of the Lady Davis Institute at the Jewish General Hospital in Montreal. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Geriatrics/Gerontology network funded by the Fonds de la Recherche en Sante du Québec (FRSQ) and is a member of the Executive of the Canadian Geriatrics Society. Together with Professor François Béland, he leads a joint McGill/University of Montreal Research Group on Integrated Care for the Elderly. In the area of dementia and Alzheimer's disease, he is the founder and co-director of the Jewish General Hospital/McGill University Memory Clinic. He is a co-investigator in the Canadian Study on Health and Aging, and is particularly interested in early diagnosis of dementia. He is involved in multicentre trials in dementia and is President of the Consortium of Canadian Centres for Clinical Cognitive Research (C5R).

Howard Bergman, M.D., est professeur agrégé des départements de médecine et de médecine familiale et directeur de la division de médecine gériatrique de la faculté de médecine de l'Université McGill. Il est professeur adjoint de la faculte d'administration de la santé de l'Université de Montréal et chercheur du Groupe de Recherche Interdisciplinaire en Santé (GRIS). II est également directeur de la division de médecine gériatrique et chercheur au Centre d'épidémiologie clinique et d'études communau-taires du Centre Bloomfield de recherche sur le vieillissement de l'lnstitut Lady Davis de l'Hôpital Général Juif de Montréal. II est membre du comité exécutif du réseau de gériatrie et de gérontologie financé par le Fonds de la Recherche en Santé du Québec (FRSQ) et membre du conseil de la Canadian Geriatrics Society. Avec le professeur François Béland, il dirige un groupe de recherche conjoint McGill/Université de Montréal sur les soins intégrés pour les aîné(e)s. Il est fondateur et co-directeur de la Clinique de la mémoire du l'Hôpital Général Juif et de l'Université McGill. Il est co-chercheur de l'Étude sur la santé et le vieillissement au Canada et s'intéresse particulièrement au diagnostic précoce de la démence. Il participe à des recherches multi-centres en démence et est président du Groupe des Canadian Centres for Clinical Cognitive Research (C5R).
