APSA Presidential Address: The Public Role of Political Science

Robert D. Putnam a1
a1 Peter and Isabel Malkin Professor of Public Policy at Harvard University (Robert_Putnam@Harvard.edu). Among his recent books are Making Democracy Work, Bowling Alone, and Better Together: Restoring the American Community, a forthcoming collection of case studies of the renewal of social capital across America. His current research addresses the challenges of building community in an increasingly diverse society. This essay is a slightly expanded version of his presidential address at the 2002 APSA annual meeting

I'm pleased to report that the health of the American Political Science Association (APSA), and of political science as a discipline, is excellent.
