2 As (A) ‘being asleep’ (καθε η δειν-present infinitive) is the opposite pole of (B) ‘being awake’ (γρηγμρ ναι-perfect infinitive with present meaning), so (C) ‘being alive’ (ξ ν-present infinitive) is the opposite pole of (D) ‘being dead’ (τεθνναι-perfect infinitive with present meaning). The processes producing the first two states are ‘falling asleep’ (καταδαρθνειν-present infinitive) ‘waking up’ (νεγε ρεσθαι -present infinitive of an ν-compound); in similar fashion the processes producing the latter two states are ‘dying’ (πμθν σκειν -present infinitive) and ‘coming back to life’ (ναβι ώ σκσθαι -present infinitive of an ν-compound).
